Marchmont Edinburgh Airbnb
One of my last property shoots of 2018, but one that’s taken me until September 2019 to write about (and for no particular reason), took place in Marchmont.
Marchmont is basically full of old tenements with really high ceilings, so they can be a nightmare to heat and they really vary in quality. Some are great, like this one, some less so (like my home) but Marchmont has a real variety of people living there. There are some retirees, tonnes of students and many parents move to Marchmont so their children can go to one of the local so-called top schools in Edinburgh.
I say so-called as my daughter went to James Gillespie’s for the first two years of her school life and it was awful; stuck up, they don’t teach anything, there are way too many children per class (38 in her old class compared to 14 in her new school) and other reasons. But this demand for sending kids to these schools has risen the local property prices. Just recently a two bedroom property around the corner from where we live sold for nearly £600,000. Crazy money!
But back to this property, the gentleman that owns it has owned it for 20+ years and is now renting it out on Airbnb. Compared to my property, his was a lot more modern and really quite nice. I would be curious to check the value of it but it’s a really nice apartment with an old tenement feel, modern features in a really cracking area just a 5 minute walk from Edinburgh’s Old Town.
