Made Newcastle

Property photographer London. Towards the back end of 2015, I did quite a lot of work for Deliveroo in which I travelled all around Glasgow and the north of England photographing food and restaurants for them.

The job had different experiences and finished fairly abruptly plus it was really terrible for my waistline as I kept bringing home huge doggy bags of free food but I did get to travel around quite a lot. Funnily enough, even though I live in Edinburgh I missed out on the Edinburgh Deliveroo job (didn’t apply in time) but I became their food photographer in Glasgow which was really great. I like Glasgow anyway but the Deliveroo job really helped me to learn what’s where in Glasgow.

As well as Glasgow I travelled down south for a week. I spent a couple of days working in York which was pretty awful. York itself is a pretty enough city but in general, most (but must emphasise not all) restaurants had really shitty attitudes. I used my own time to call restaurants, they would agree a time then I’d arrive and they would be going through a sudden renovation or they would want to use their own photos. Really annoying!

Another city I spent a couple of days in was Newcastle and this was the first time I had ever been to Newcastle. From what I saw in the two days I really liked, especially the Jesmond area, and generally most people were really nice. There were a couple of “oh well nobody told me you were coming restaurants” but generally it was cool.

So I was pretty delighted that Made.com, who I’ve done a few jobs for (including these two stunning properties in Biggar and Falkirk, asked me if I was up for travelling down to Newcastle to photograph a property for them. If you haven’t heard of Made and can’t be bothered to go through my website, Made are a bespoke furniture company that you order furniture from directly and that arrives a few weeks later. Their products from what I’ve seen have generally been lovely and pricing is pretty great too. I would say probably a little more expensive than Ikea in general but a whole lot nicer.

Made do something called Unboxed where rather than just show off a piece of furniture on a website or do a fake set like a certain Swedish company, products are photographed in real people’s homes. Pretty cool idea if you ask me and I gather Made books a lot of their shoots with people who have shown off photos of their products on Instagram. As I say to all my creative friends, Instagram is an awesome platform for getting your work out there and also getting work.

I did the shoot on a Sunday and was scheduled for 11 am. I left home at 8.30 and it was a great drive down, absolutely no traffic until nearly 10 and a dead easy quick drive down there. I went to David’s home and captured photos of his lounge/kitchen, a home office, his bedroom and a bathroom. The shoots are focused mainly on Made’s products but the idea is McDonald’s do some lifestyle shots.

Only David’s lounge had made products and these were a clock, the sofa, some dining chairs, a coffee table and the same table used under the TV. I took around 30-40 photos which took around 1.5 hours and a few headshots of David as well. David was absolutely fantastic to work with, extremely friendly and really accommodating. I took Liv and Amelia with me and Millie was pining for a McDonald’s happy meal so after the shoot we did lunch at Mcdonald’s and then went into Newcastle to check out the Discovery Museum.

Sadly the Discovery Museum was completely unimpressive so I rather regret going there but it looked cool online and we needed to stretch our legs after the long drive. If we go back to Newcastle I’ll take Liv and Amelia to Jesmond and have a wander around there but it was a great shoot and both David and Made have been delighted by the photos.

As always look forward to doing more shoots like these.

As mentioned this was photographed in Newcastle but I have now moved to London. if you’re looking for a property photographer London, whether it be for photos, videos, floor plans, drone shots, VR tours, or a combination of some or all, please contact me here.
